VUNAPOPE FISHING JETTY




This is at the jetty at the back of the Tropicana Premesis at Vunapope. Locals are here nearly every day, all day long, and even at night. They mainly fish for small fish called "malabur" which tastes great if fried.


MOLOT HEALTH CENTRE - DUKE OF YORK ISLAND


















The Molot Health Centre is located on the Duke of York Island, inside the Makada Harbour. It is a 45 min boat trip from the town of Kokopo.

The Health Centre is run down as can be seen from the following pictures. But on Monday the 17th of August Tenders were called by the Gazelle Restoration Authority for Maintanence works to the Health Centre... GREAT!!!



























The health center is pretty run down but is being improved by the Gazelle Restoration Authority.

Brief Intro to the Gazelle Peninsula

The Gazelle Peninsula is located at the North east most tip of the Island of New Britain.

There are two provinces on this Island, East New Britain and West New Britain. The map at the left is from the year 1912.

East new Britain Province has four Districts; Gazelle, Kokopo, Pomio, and Rabaul District.

Below is a Google earth image below of the Gazelle Peninsula.

Most people in the Province are subsistant
farmers and the main cash crops are cocoa and copra.
